Why You Need a Yes Attitude
I used to think being positive was the way to go. But it’s not. In fact, a yes! attitude is the way to go.
What’s the difference between a yes attitude and a positive attitude?
A yes attitude:
- Is the difference between saying “I’m sorry” and “Thank you”
- Is focused on the action you should be taking (saying yes)
- Is the difference between “Hell yeah I want to buy that” and “That sounds great, let me think about it some more”
How do you develop a yes attitude? I learned these from Jeffrey Gitomer. He says he’s been practicing his yes attitude for 30 years. He’s going to practice for 30 more years and then he’s going to stop.
Focus on what can be done
Yes, you’re right — this is also one of the tenets of stoicism.
Before I explain further, here’s a quick activity for you to think through. I am thinking about creating a chair where instead of a flat seat, it’s a pyramid (pointy end pointing up where you sit). What do you think about the chair?
If you’re like me, you immediately thought “no one can sit on the chair — what an awful idea!”
