I get them. You get them. We all get into ruts. Sometimes the troughs are temporary. Other times you have to do more work to get out of them. Here are ten things I do when I’m feeling stuck:

Get 8 hours of sleep

There is nothing better than getting a good night’s rest. If I’m feeling stressed, anxious or worried, I make sure I’ve done everything for the day and then get to bed early.

Exercise

I’m stealing this from James Clear who says that a bad day can be turned around by getting in a hard workout. It’s true — when I feel like I’m not getting any work done or I can’t come up with ideas, I get in a hard workout. It’s meditative — can you think of anything other than your next breath when you’re moving heavy metal from one spot to another?

Call your parents

I don’t call my parents enough. You probably aren’t either (okay, maybe you are and you can skip this one). I always feel better when I call my parents. I don’t necessarily share all my gripes and worries but it feels good to talk and connect.
